The pond in Durants Park has been cleaned out and the bushes and brambles around it cut back, opening up clearer views into the park from Hertford Road.
The wider improvement work has focused on restoring and improving the pond area, including replanting and improving the water flow, while making the area more welcoming for visitors and better for wildlife and biodiversity.
The pond is an important habitat for ducks and other park wildlife. The Pond Life photographs below record the wildlife using the water after the improvement work.
The pond and reed beds provide an important wildlife area within Durants Park. These photographs record ducks, moorhens and other water birds using the pond and its surrounding vegetation.

The parks archive is not just a record of events. It also records the smaller changes that make a difference: planting, litter picking, community gardening, wildlife projects, improving entrances and bringing neglected areas back into use.
