FUTSAL CLUB ENFIELD — HISTORY

From WE Boys and FS Northaw to Enfield & CM

The story of the club

The archive combines first-hand club records from founder Rob Brassett with surviving FA Full-Time records, contemporary press reports and historical futsal archives. Where an outside database used the wrong club name, the club's contemporary record is used and the discrepancy is noted.

2005 — WE Boys and the first taste of futsal

The story began with the WE Boys, a team from the Southbury Leisure Centre 7-a-side competition, entering an FA Futsal Cup. They lost 12–1 to Vaughans and then drew 5–5 with Helvécia do Brazil. The experience led to six Southbury teams forming a local Enfield futsal league, which went on to run for around 15 years.

March–December 2007 — building a National League club

Rob Brassett, Grant Osborn and Martin May founded the club. In March Rob and Martin discussed forming a side for the Futsal Premier League. In April they developed an Edmonton Galaxy proposal based at Edmonton Leisure Centre; by May the plan had expanded to entering either the FPL or the proposed National Futsal League. A proposal went to The FA in June, with progress updates in August and a further FA meeting in October.

In November Enfield Leisure Centres withdrew support for futsal and football, leaving Edmonton Galaxy close to collapse. Rob then met Bradley Hall at Grundy Park Leisure Centre in Cheshunt. A new identity was needed and in December Northaw Futsal Club / FS Northaw emerged with the aim of entering the FA National Futsal League.

January–February 2008 — accepted into the inaugural league

FS Northaw submitted its FA application in January. Rob attended an FA meeting for interested clubs and on 23 January 2008 Northaw was offered a place in the Conference League South. The original list included Kickers, Maidstone United, White Bear, Vaughans, FCS Corinthians (incorporating London Brazil United), Helvecia do Brasil, Futbol Sala Northaw and Baltic.

“This is like the day the Football League was formed back in 1888 and we are part of it.” — Rob Brassett, January 2008

At the February committee meeting the officers were: Chairman Chris Brassett; Vice Chairman Sam Judge; Secretary Robert Brassett; Treasurer Lynn Osborn; Managers Aaron Cato and Grant Osborn; Coach Sam Judge; Transport Martin Convery; Kerry Osborn (video); and Robert Brassett (press and public relations). Martin May was Head Coach during the inaugural season.

2 March 2008 — the first National League fixture

FS Northaw played Baltic United at the University of Hertfordshire Sports Village in what Rob's contemporary club record identifies as the first fixture of the new National League. Baltic won 7–4. Jamie De Zenzo scored Northaw's first National League goal; Aaron Cato, Sam Judge and Grant Osborn also scored.

From FS Northaw to Futsal Club Enfield

The inaugural season was played as FS Northaw. FutsalPlanet later backfilled the English competition and retrospectively displayed the side as “FC Enfield”; that label is not used here to rewrite the contemporary club name. From the following period the club became Futsal Club Enfield.

2014/15 — unbeaten champions

The outstanding league season in the archive: Futsal Club Enfield won its division unbeaten. The season has its own highlighted record in the season-by-season archive, including three reconstructed missing team sheets.

2017/18 — merger with CM Futsal

Futsal Club Enfield merged with youth club CM Futsal. CM owner and manager Carlos Santos became head coach of the men's team and the club became Enfield & CM Futsal Club. FA Full-Time uses the Enfield & CM name on some records outside the true merger date; the archive follows the club's actual chronology.

2021/22 — the final men's league season

This was the last season the men's team played before folding. Enfield beat Brunel Futsal Pro 5–4 in a cup match on 15 May 2022. Brunel subsequently challenged the eligibility of Enfield players and the league committee allowed Brunel to progress. Rob Brassett strongly disputed the allegation and also rejected a suggestion that, because he was an administrative secretary for the league, he had altered appearance records to benefit Enfield. The archive records this as Rob's first-hand account of the dispute, not as an independently proven allegation.

Rob also recalls that Brunel later fielded an unregistered goalkeeper in the final, which they lost. Unless the original competition paperwork is recovered, this remains clearly labelled as club recollection.

The club story did not disappear with the men's league team. Surviving public material records Futsal Club Enfield continuing local training and youth development after the men's league side stopped competing.
